Petya Kolcheva’s book “In the Shadow of Everest”

Върхът ЕверестPetya Kolcheva was the first Bulgarian woman to reach the summit of Everest. On 29 May 2009, together with her husband Kamen Kolchev, she conquered the highest peak on Earth. In November 2010, she published her account of their successful expedition in a book called “In the Shadow of Everest”.

Petya was born in 1964 in the southern Bulgarian town of Plovdiv. She studied at the local English language college, and later graduated in Law from Sofia University.

Petya Kolcheva is a managing partner of one of Bulgaria’s leading law firms, Novelconsult, which specialises in investment banking, water and electricity infrastructure projects.

She has three children – all teenagers. Together with her husband Kamen they are only the fifth husband and wife couple to have reached the peak of Everest. They have also climbed Mont Blanc, Mount McKinley, Aconcagua and Cho Oyu.

“In the Shadow of Everest” is an entertaining tale of the long road travelled by Petya from Plovdiv to the summit of Chomolungma.
